Javier Gilgeous-Glasgow is a senior guard from Toronto, Ontario who joins Troy as an international transfer with one of the more distinctive family backgrounds in college basketball — he is the cousin of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA MVP and Oklahoma City Thunder star. A product of United Scholastic Academy in Canada, Gilgeous-Glasgow spent two seasons at Howard College in Texas before a breakout year at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he averaged 12.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while starting all 24 games and scoring a season-high 32 points against York. He was selected in the first round of the Canadian Elite Basketball League draft but chose to return to finish his college career at Troy. Coach Scott Cross cited his defensive toughness and team-oriented play as primary reasons for the signing.
