Jayme Kontuniemi brings an international pedigree and a hockey player's toughness to the NC State backcourt. The 6-4 guard from Helsinki, Finland, played at Drive Basketball Academy, where he averaged 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in the European Youth Basketball League. A former hockey player who transitioned to basketball, Kontuniemi was offered by NC State head coach Will Wade during an April 2025 phone call and committed less than two weeks after taking his official visit to Raleigh. Assistant coach Adam Howard served as the lead recruiter, building a strong bond with the Finnish prospect throughout the process. Kontuniemi represents NC State's growing investment in international talent development.
