The 7-foot center from Germany joined Rasta Vechta as a teenager, rising through the club's youth ranks and eventually earning minutes in the top flight of the Bundesliga. During the 2024-25 season, Grunloh started all 33 games for Rasta Vechta, averaging 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 23.3 minutes per game. Originally considered a possible second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Grunloh opted not to declare and instead committed to Virginia under first-year head coach Ryan Odom, choosing the Cavaliers over programs including Indiana. He was named one of college basketball's top incoming international players heading into the 2025-26 season.
