Keba Keita arrived at BYU in 2024 as one of the most intriguing transfers in the Big 12. A native of Bamako, Mali, Keita prepped at Wasatch Academy, where he ranked No. 84 in the ESPN 100 as a three-star recruit. He signed with Utah in 2022 and spent two seasons with the Utes, appearing in 66 games with 13 starts. As a sophomore in 2023-24, Keita averaged a career-high 8.3 points per game while shooting 61 percent from the floor, helping Utah to a 22-win season and an NIT semifinal appearance. He entered the transfer portal that spring and committed to BYU within a week, citing his relationship with assistant coach Chris Burgess as the deciding factor over interest from Texas and other Power Five programs. In his first season with the Cougars in 2024-25, Keita started all 35 games and averaged 7.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per contest, establishing himself as a reliable interior presence. He returned to BYU for his senior year in 2025-26.
