Fridrik Leo Curtis took an improbable path from Icelandic soccer pitches to Big Ten basketball. The 7-1 freshman from Reykjavik, Iceland played for IR Reykjavik in the Iceland Subway League in 2023-24, averaging 15.4 points on 58 percent shooting — including 42 percent from three — along with 8.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He then spent his senior prep year at Cambridge Arts, Technology and Science Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts before signing with Nebraska. Curtis also starred for Iceland's U20 national team at the 2025 EuroBasket Championships in Greece, leading all players in blocked shots (2.7 per game) while averaging 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds. He is the second Icelandic player in Husker history, following two-year starter Thorir Thorbjarnarson (2019-21).
