Maliq Brown is a senior forward who provides scoring punch off the bench, averaging 4.7 points in 19.2 minutes per game. He is one of the most efficient scorers in the ACC, converting 61.1% of his shots. He does his damage in the paint, not from the perimeter.
Maliq Brown transferred to Duke from Syracuse in April 2024 as one of the most sought-after defenders in the transfer portal, drawing 64 offers after two seasons with the Orange. Brown originally committed to Syracuse over Virginia Tech, NC State, Penn State and Georgetown, signing in November 2021. He appeared in 29 games with seven starts as a freshman, then broke out as a sophomore, starting 18 of 32 games and averaging 9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 0.9 blocks while shooting 69.8 percent from the field. He was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team that season. In his first year at Duke (2024-25), Brown served as a key reserve on the 35-win squad, contributing 2.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He was described as a defensive menace by head coach Jon Scheyer, recording five steals against Kansas and grabbing 11 rebounds in a game at Louisville. Shoulder dislocations in February and during the ACC tournament limited his availability, but he returned for the NCAA Tournament. Brown is now a senior leader in his second season at Duke.
