Nico Onyekwere is a freshman center from Abuja, Nigeria, who took a winding path to Villanova. The 7-1, 240-pound big man with a reported 7-6 wingspan played in Serbia and Germany before coming to the United States to attend Long Island Lutheran High School in Glen Head, New York. He originally signed with Florida State before gaining his release following a coaching change and committing to Villanova. Coach Kevin Willard described him as "a space-eater, an old-school style center" who "has range to 17 feet, can shoot the hook shot with both hands and does a good job on screen and rolls." Onyekwere is a redshirt candidate this season.
