A native of Nairobi, Kenya, Otieno began his American basketball career at Kilgore College in Texas, where he played two seasons from 2020 to 2022. As a sophomore, he earned honorable mention NJCAA All-American honors while shooting 68.7 percent from the floor and averaging 11.0 points per game. Otieno then spent three seasons at Quinnipiac, starting 98 games for the Bobcats. His final season in 2024-25 was his best: 13.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, earning first-team All-MAAC honors. He ranked sixth in all of Division I with 3.91 offensive rebounds per game and posted 13 double-doubles. Otieno transferred to Saint Louis for the 2025-26 season, taking advantage of an NCAA waiver granting former junior college athletes an extra year of eligibility. The 6-foot-8 forward brings physical interior play and shot-blocking ability to the Billikens' frontcourt.
