Peyton McCollum joins the Hawkeyes as both a promising young guard and the son of head coach Ben McCollum. The 6-2 freshman from Maryville, Missouri, spent his senior season at Waukee Northwest High School in suburban Des Moines, where he helped lead his team to the 2025 state championship game while averaging 13.1 points and 5.2 assists per game. He earned First Team All-State honors from the Iowa Professional Sports Writers Association and was a Class 5A First Team All-State selection by Sports Illustrated. McCollum had originally planned to play at Drake for his father before the elder McCollum accepted the Iowa head coaching position. A heady floor general with court vision beyond his years, Peyton brings both competitive toughness and a deep understanding of his father's system to the Hawkeyes' backcourt.
