Trey Thompson made an early leap to the Big Ten as one of the most highly-regarded recruits in Iowa basketball history. The 6-8 forward from Greeneville, Tennessee, reclassified from the Class of 2026 to join the Hawkeyes for the 2025-26 season. Ranked 93rd nationally and the top prospect out of Tennessee by 247Sports, Thompson averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in Nike EYBL 3SSB play while shooting 58.2 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. A four-star recruit, Thompson chose Iowa over numerous high-major suitors, drawn to Ben McCollum's player development program and the promise of early playing time in the Hawkeyes' retooled frontcourt.
