Tyran Mason was born in Vichy, France, where his father played professional basketball before the family moved to the Dallas area. His father also played collegiately at SMU. A 2024 graduate of Plano High School, Mason led all DFW-area boys basketball in scoring as a senior (25.3 ppg) and was a two-time district offensive MVP and McDonald's All-American nominee. He played AAU ball for Tyrese Maxey's program, Max Levels Elite. Mason signed with North Texas out of high school, appearing in four games as a freshman before transferring to UT Arlington, where he has been one of the Mavericks' more versatile contributors in his sophomore season.
