The Big East Conference, in its current form, was reconstituted in 2013 when the basketball-centric schools separated from the football-playing members to form a pure hoops conference. The heritage runs deeper: the original Big East, founded in 1979, redefined college basketball with powerhouses like Georgetown (1984 national champion), Villanova (1985, 2016, 2018), Syracuse (2003), and Connecticut (1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023). Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, and Allen Iverson are among the legends forged in Big East arenas.
