The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference was founded in 1980, originally created as a league for smaller Catholic and Jesuit universities in the Northeast seeking a competitive basketball home. Iona, Manhattan, Fairfield, Siena, Marist, Niagara, Canisius, Saint Peter's, Rider, and Quinnipiac form a tight-knit conference with passionate alumni bases concentrated in the New York metropolitan area and New England. Saint Peter's stunning 2022 run to the Elite Eight as a 15-seed captured the nation's attention and remains one of the most remarkable Cinderella stories in NCAA Tournament history.
