The Mid-American Conference has operated since 1946, serving as a competitive mid-major league for universities primarily in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan, and Akron compete in a league with deep basketball traditions. The MAC produced John Havlicek at Ohio State (though before the MAC era) and has sent programs like Western Michigan and Buffalo to the NCAA Tournament in recent years.
