The Patriot League, founded in 1986, serves academically prestigious universities without athletic scholarships in its non-revenue sports, though basketball programs do award aid. Colgate, Lehigh, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Army, Navy, Boston University, Lafayette, Loyola Maryland, American, and Navy compete in a conference that has produced several memorable NCAA Tournament moments. Bucknell defeated Kansas in 2005 in one of the great upsets in tournament history, while Colgate has become a consistent tournament qualifier and bracket-buster threat.
