The Southwestern Athletic Conference, founded in 1920, is one of the oldest athletic conferences in the United States and serves as the primary basketball conference for Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the South. Southern, Grambling State, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, and Mississippi Valley State compete in a conference with tremendous cultural and historical significance to the African American community and the broader history of college sports.
